Dublin City Council has granted permission for Harry Crosbie to build a four-star, 182-bedroom hotel adjacent to the Vicar Street venue, despite receiving 40 objections, including one from a senior priest concerned about community impact.
The council’s planning report concluded that the hotel would not seriously harm residential amenities and could complement the Vicar Street venue’s success, which has a sold-out calendar for the next six months.
Mr. Crosbie emphasized the need for increased foot traffic in the area, particularly at night, claiming that the hotel would be a significant enhancement to the neighbourhood.
Although the Transportation Planning Division initially recommended refusal due to service proposals, the council overruled this, and the permission includes a condition for a development contribution of €769,595 towards public infrastructure.
