Irish visits to Türkiye up 19pc to 160k in first nine months of 2024

Türkiye has experienced a record-breaking increase in tourism from Ireland in the wake of the conference of the Irish Travel Agents Association in Antalya last October

Türkiye attracted 160,000 Irish visitors in the first nine months of 2024, an 18.9pc rise compared to the same period in 2023.

The Turkish Minister of Culture and Tourism reported a total of 49.2m global visitors, a 9pc increase year-on-year, and a corresponding rise in tourism revenue to €46.2bn, reflecting enhanced average daily spending of €105 per visitor.

Key markets for Türkiye’s tourism growth included England, Russia, and Germany, with England seeing a 17pc increase in visitors, while significant growth from China reached 84pc, highlighting Türkiye’s appeal to various international tourists.

Cultural tourism is flourishing, with nearly 14m visits to museums and historical sites in the first half of 2024, representing a 12pc increase, showcasing Türkiye’s rich heritage through renowned destinations like Ephesus, Cappadocia, and İstanbul.
