Viking officially named its two newest river ships, Viking Hathor and Viking Sobek, during a special ceremony in Luxor, Egypt, designed for sailing on the Nile River.
Both ships were constructed at the Massara shipyard in Cairo and will operate on Viking’s 12-day Pharaohs and Pyramids itinerary.
Edward Herbert and Mohamed El Banna served as the ceremonial godfathers for the Viking Hathor and Viking Sobek, respectively, both having historical connections to Egypt.
The naming ceremony took place at Viking’s private docking area in Luxor and featured a celebratory dinner at Karnak Temple, including a performance by soprano Sissel Kyrkjebø, who sang national anthems in multiple languages.
