A Longford developer has received approval to construct a 192-bedroom four-star hotel as part of a €30m development in Athlone, County Westmeath.

The hotel, designed by Longford-based Avenir Homes DAC, will include luxury amenities such as a state-of-the-art gym, spa, and extensive conferencing facilities, making it a premier destination in the Midlands.

The proposed hotel would be located on a two-acre site at Brawney Road, Cloghanboy just off the N55 Ballymahon Road roundabout and the busy M6.

At heights reaching up to ten storeys, the hotel is set to become one of the tallest buildings in the region, located on a prominent two-acre site near the N55 and N6 roads, previously designated for an office complex.

Plans also include a rooftop plant area, a modern lounge, bar, and restaurant, along with a three-storey parking deck, ensuring a comprehensive experience for guests and visitors alike.

Designer Mark Cunningham was originally granted planning permission two years ago for a nine storey high office block on the site. In June planning permission to develop a hotel there instead, subject to 16 conditions, including the payment of over €311,000 in development levies.
