The European Union has placed Air Tanzania on its updated Air Safety List, prohibiting the airline from operating within or over EU airspace due to safety concerns identified by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).
The EU also denied Third Country Operator (TCO) authorization to Air Tanzania, despite the airline currently not flying to the EU, affecting its plans to secure slots for future flights.
EU Commissioner Apostolos Tzitzikostas emphasized the need for Air Tanzania to resolve these safety issues promptly and offered support to Tanzanian authorities to improve compliance with international aviation standards.
Air Tanzania currently operates a fleet capable of reaching Europe, including three B787-8s, and is one of several airlines banned by the EU due to safety issues, alongside additional bans affecting airlines from Russia and other countries due to national oversight concerns.
