A total of 98 beaches and 17 marinas have been awarded Blue Flag status for 2025. Kerry has the most Blue Flags with 15 beaches and 1 marina, followed by Donegal with 14 beaches and 1 marina.
Sites must meet 33 stringent criteria, including environmental education, safety, accessibility, and site management, to retain the Blue Flag, which is renewed annually. All Blue Flag sites must maintain “excellent” water quality from May to September, based on the previous four bathing seasons
Beaches like Cappagh Pier (Clare), Céibh an Spidéal (Galway), Ballymoney North (Wexford), Tramore, and Counsellors’ Strand (Waterford) regained Blue Flag status due to improved water quality. Greencastle Marina (Donegal) also regained its status.
Ten beaches received both Blue Flag and Green Coast Awards: Balcarrick (Dublin), Salthill and Silverstrand (Galway), Trá Inis Oírr (Galway), Fountainstown and Inchydoney East (Cork), Baile an Sceilg (Kerry), Bettystown (Meath), Enniscrone, and Rosses Point (Sligo).
