The Brazilian port of Santos is set to debut a new cruise port and tourism complex as part of the Santos Vivo project. Initial approval from local authorities has been granted for the infrastructure development, which includes an artificial island linked to Ponta da Praia by a new pier.

The complex will feature a marina, shopping district, water park, upscale hotel, and a three-berth cruise terminal designed to accommodate over 250 cruise calls annually.

The project is expected to require an investment of over 1.2bn reais (over €186m) and create more than 5,000 new jobs. Initial plans aim for the new facilities to open in mid-2027, following further licensing from government bodies.

The project’s website shared “The Santos Vivo project is designed to welcome some of the world’s largest vessels, the new facility would be able to accommodate over 250 calls per year, able to host three ships simultaneously. The new pier was also designed to protect coastal areas from sea swells. The development is now expected to seek further licenses from other government bodies.”
