An Coimisiún Pleanála has refused the planning permission for the €100m redevelopment of St Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre. The refusal reversed a decision made by Dublin City Council in December 2023, which had granted permission to DTDL Ltd.
ACP cited a lack of original aesthetic and insufficient standards in placemaking and architecture for the refusal.
The board noted it held a different opinion from the inspector regarding the existing shopping centre’s architectural status. The decision allows for the possibility of a new application, provided it meets high-quality design expectations.
Objectors, An Taisce shared, “The predominantly large office development lacks architectural sensitivity towards St Stephen’s Green and results in the loss of an impressive naturally lit space.”
