Celebrity Cruises’ new river cruise brand will deliver exceptional experiences to guests and addressing the demand for river experiences beyond just profit motives, the group claims. Royal Caribbean Group plans to launch its first Celebrity River ships in 2027, with an expansion from two ships to four ships by 2028.

Jason Liberty expressed that the number of river ships reflects both operational readiness and a strong understanding of potential global and European destinations. The company is focused on accelerating the development of the river ship fleet while ensuring thoughtful execution of their plans.

Liberty noted that there is significant growth potential in the river cruising market and highlighted customer interest in boarding the new ships as soon as possible.

Jason Liberty shared, “We want to make sure that we can deliver these experiences to our guests, and we have to challenge ourselves not just because we can make some more money on it, but because we need to meet that demand for our guests who are looking to have that river experience.”

“I’m probably more focused on how we get it done faster. But our teams are being very thoughtful about that. It’s going to be a great vacation experience for our guests. There’s a lot of space. This is a very underpenetrated marketplace, we think. There’s room for everybody to grow successfully, but we’re going to elevate this. Another confidence driver is that the company has customers coming forward, wanting to be onboard as soon as possible.”
