Woodbrook Station opened yesterday, becoming the first new DART station in 15 years, located between Shankill and Bray.
The station is the 147th station on the Irish Rail network, facilitating up to 191 daily services.
Construction completed under budget at €24m, with work beginning in October 2023.
Last year recorded 330 million journeys across all public transport modes in Ireland.
Future plans include doubling DART capacity and expanding the rail network nationwide.
Minister O’Brien shared, “It was a significant day for the area and an example of what the Government wants to do across the rail network nationwide. It was budgeted at €24 million and it came in under budget with the construction work only started in October 2023. It does speak to our ambition over the next five years to double capacity on the DART network.”
Barry Kenny shared, “This is an example of delivering public transport. It is there as the communities develop and grow. We are investing in doubling capacity in the Greater Dublin Area.”
