The Ireland India Council has cancelled the India Day festival at Farmleigh due to safety fears following recent attacks on Indians in Ireland.

Prashant Shukla of the Ireland India society stated the current situation is not conducive for holding the event and that new dates will be announced.

Tánaiste Simon Harris condemned the attacks on the Indian community and acknowledged their positive contributions to Irish society.

The Federation of Indian Communities in Ireland confirmed that another event in Merrion Square will still take place as planned.

The Minister of State for Migration called for stronger policing responses to the recent incidents of racism against the Indian community.

Prashant Shukla shared, “We feel that the situation at the moment for holding India Day is not conducive.”

Simon Harris shared, “The Indian community have made and continue to make a very positive contribution to Irish society. More needs to be done with younger people at school levels to tackle racism.”
