In August 2025, Wilderness announced record annual payments of USD17.1m to governments and communities as part of their conservation business model.

This figure marks a 21pc increase from the previous financial year, bringing the total payments over the last decade to USD97m.

Wilderness’s contributions support wildlife conservation and community development across seven African countries, including Botswana, Kenya, and Namibia.

The group has hosted over 8,500 children in life-changing camps and has initiated successful community projects to benefit local populations.

Vince Shacks, Wilderness Group Head of Impact, emphasised the importance of these contributions in making conservation a sustainable solution while allowing guests to experience extraordinary natural locations.

Vince Shacks shared, “Every dollar we, and our guests, pay to governments and communities contributes to the conservation economy. These payments allow us the privilege to operate in some of the world’s most pristine wilderness areas. These figures aren’t just numbers; they’re proof that our conservation tourism model can, and must, be a force for good.”
