  • New tax to begin from 1 December 2016

Doha Airport has announced that it will introduce an airport tax later in 2016.

The Doha News has reported that local travel agents will have to add a departure charge of QR35 (US$10) to the cost of all tickets flying out of the airport in the Persian Gulf Country. The new tax is set to come into place on December 1 this year.

However, the tax will be backdated to cover all tickets issued since August 30.

In addition to flights originating from Doha, all passengers who pass through the airport in transit will also be subject to the tax; the exact price of the transit charge has yet to be confirmed.

Dubai and Abu Dhabi Airport have also applied a similar tax and it is believed the reasoning behind the decision across all three airports is the fall in the price of oil.

In a related move, Abu Dhabi is also set to introduce a hotel tax to boost revenues.
