A SIPTU trade-union section committee has decided not to recommend a 4pc pay increase fo Aer Lingus ground staff despite it being approved by negotiators.
Three unions, SIPTU, Fórsa, and Unite, have approved the proposed pay rise and will put it to a staff ballot which wil take place this week.
The agreed pay increase follows a 12.25pc rise and aims to approximate the 17.5pc deal offered to pilots last year. They say staff are being asked to adjust work practices, including relinquishing marshalling tasks they have traditionally performed.
The section committee claims the proposal as very open ended, and opted not to recommend it to members. The trade union’s memo disputes the airline’s claim that last year’s agreement with pilots was a pay for productivity deal.
The memo shared, “The company has stated that to give the 4pc they want productivity. We also took on all third-party handling and we got nothing for it. This will in fact dwindle our numbers and also effect flexibility and shifts, specifically later shifts going forward if we accept. The document is very open ended and will not be recommending it.”
