France has proposed limits on cruise ships in five Côte d’Azur ports including Cannes, Nice, Villefranche-sur-Mer, Beaulieu-sur-Mer and Menton.
Ships over 3,000 passengers are banned andone vessel over 1,300 guests per day allowed. There will be a maximum 15 calls per month in July-August high season. Calls are cancellable if pollution thresholds reached. Measures follow public consultation and apply gradually.
Laurent Hottiaux shared “It is an unprecedented approach justified by the very specific aspect of welcoming cruises in the department.”
Christian Estrosi shared “As they stand, these proposals would have a marginal impact on the Nice and metropolitan coastline.”
