The fifth annual World Luxury Travel Awards ceremony’s taken place at the InterContinental Barcelona, where organisers presented accolades across global and regional categories to entities that processed over 100,000 public votes .
The event, which drew 500 attendees from 50 countries, featured speeches from industry figures on sustainability and innovation in travel, with winners selected through a combination of expert panels and voter input on criteria such as guest experience and operational standards. Results, announced on 3 November, cover periods from January 2024 to October 2025 and include honours for hotels, resorts, tour operators, and destinations that generated €2.5bn in luxury bookings during the review timeframe.
The awards maintain a code that limits entries to verified trade members and prohibits self-voting, ensuring outcomes reflect international consensus. A second gala occurs on 31 October in Singapore for Asia-Pacific recipients, but Barcelona hosted the European and select global presentations, with digital certificates issued for promotional use.
Organisers report that past winners experienced 12 per cent increases in reservations post-announcement, contributing €150 million to the sector economy. The programme, established in 2020 as a counterpart to broader travel recognitions, plans to add categories for expedition travel in 2026 amid 15 per cent growth in that segment.
Highgate Portugal secured 17 awards at the event, including Portugal’s Leading Luxury Hotel 2025 for Savoy Palace, Europe’s Leading Luxury Boutique Hotel 2025 for Valverde.
