Lord Mayor of Dublin, Councilor Ray McAdam shared “For 125 years, Charleville Mall Library has stood as a beacon of learning, ambition and community spirit in the North East Inner City. When its doors first opened, its mission was clear: to offer Dublin’s working families access to literacy, knowledge and opportunity. A century and a quarter later, that mission has not only endured, it has expanded. Today, our libraries champion traditional literacy while also leading on digital inclusion, community outreach, sustainability, creativity and access to technology. As we mark this remarkable milestone, we are reminded that libraries are not relics of the past, but essential foundations of a fair, connected and forward-looking Dublin.”
Dublin City Librarian, Mairead Owens shared “Dublin’s public libraries are places of welcome and learning, offering services that support literacy, creativity, culture, and connection for people of all ages. For the past 125 years Charleville Mall Library has stood as a safe, civic democratic space in its community where all are welcome. It is a testament to the mission and longevity of the public library service and its ability to adapt to modern needs and to continually evolve to meet the demands of changing communities. I am confident that Charleville Mall will continue to serve as an inclusive, well-loved community hub for many years to come.”
