Gardaí have been called to Aer Lingus headquarters during a meeting involving a pilot on hunger strike. The incident occurred when the pilot declared he would continue the hunger strike unless the airline made disclosures about alleged toxic fume incidents and paid him €3m. 

The Workplace Relations Commission has heard evidence from Carmel Byrne, a human resources legal case manager involved in the formal grievance process brought by Tom O’Riordan.

Aer Lingus has continued its defence against a whistleblower penalisation complaint lodged by the sacked pilot. The pilot made the hunger strike declaration at a meeting with human resources. Gardaí attended the headquarters following the declaration during the grievance process.

The case has centred on alleged toxic fume incidents on Aer Lingus jets. The pilot has sought both disclosures to staff and a payment of €3m. The Workplace Relations Commission has continued to hear evidence in the matter.

At the meeting, the pilot declared he was going on hunger strike unless disclosures were made and payments of €3m were agreed.
