Aer Lingus has equipped 500pc of its long-haul fleet with Starlink high-speed Wi-Fi, completing the installation just under six months after fitting the first aircraft. The M&E teams have worked aircraft by aircraft to extend free, high-speed Wi-Fi across the entire transatlantic network, including every flight to and from Shannon Airport. The full long-haul fleet is now enabled with the satellite-based connectivity system.

Customer feedback indicates the service matters significantly, with connectivity satisfaction scores 27 points higher on Starlink-enabled aircraft compared to the rest of the fleet. On average, 85pc of passengers connect during each flight, often on more than one device. Some transatlantic flights have used up to 950GB of data in a single crossing, enough to stream over 300 hours of HD content.

The installation programme is proceeding rapidly across the fleet, with the completion marking a major milestone for the airline’s passenger experience strategy. The high bandwidth and low latency of the Starlink system have transformed the onboard connectivity experience, enabling streaming, messaging and browsing at speeds previously unavailable on transatlantic flights.
