Dublin City Council Bram Stoker Festival is returning from 23 to 26 October with a programme of events across the city. The festival has transformed Dublin into a destination for theatre, spectacle, cinema and creative experiences inspired by the author of Dracula. Macnas is bringing its Fiáin parade to Dublin’s North East Inner City on 26 October, combining visual theatre, music and storytelling.
Petrified Live has brought the award-winning Irish horror audio drama to Project Arts Centre for a live episode. Stitch has come to Smock Alley Theatre for the first time following a run at Cork Midsummer Festival. The Museum of Curiosities has presented Senses, an immersive journey through five rooms featuring projection-lit collections and Victorian viewing devices. Stokerland returned to St Patrick’s Park from 24 to 26 October with free family activities, while Dracula’s Disco took place at the Round Room at the Mansion House.
The festival featured a 4K restoration of the 1958 Dracula film at Light House Cinema, a walking tour of Dublin’s Victorian pubs with historian Donal Fallon, and an event at Green Street Courthouse examining body snatching in Dublin graveyards. Dacre Stoker, great-grandnephew of Bram Stoker, presented a talk drawing on rare photographs and manuscripts. Historian Laura Fitzachary explored links between Stoker, Irish fashion and contemporary designers, while author Kate Ryan joined chef Andrew Rudd at Medley for a discussion on Ireland’s blood-food culture.
