Dublin City Council, in partnership with the North East Inner City Initiative, will host the Dublin Gospel Choir at Our Lady of Lourdes Church on Seán MacDermott Street, Dublin 1, for a special free Culture Night performance on Friday 18 September. Formed as a school choir in Dublin’s inner city in the mid-1990s, the Dublin Gospel Choir has spent three decades helping to build a gospel music culture in Ireland. The choir has performed on the main stages at Electric Picnic and sung before audiences of up to 82,000 people at Croke Park.
The concert builds on the success of last year’s Culture Night event at the church, which featured the RTÉ Concert Orchestra and Irish cellist Patrick Dexter, attracting audiences from across the city. Tickets are free and available on Eventbrite with early booking recommended. Doors will open at 6.30pm with the performance taking place between 7pm and 8.30pm.
Dublin City Council is supporting a range of events across the city including performances and activities at Meeting House Square, Central Plaza, North Earl Street, O’Connell Street and Capel Street as well as Hugh Lane Gallery’s offsite programme in Abbey Church and East Wall.
