Düsseldorf Airport has recorded its busiest day of the year on 18 October with nearly 87,000 travellers expected as the autumn school holidays began in North Rhine-Westphalia. Operations ran smoothly with short queues at security and around half the day’s volume processed by midday. Over the holiday period from 16 October to 1 November the airport anticipates 1.3m passengers and about 8,300 take-offs and landings.
Popular destinations include Palma de Mallorca and Antalya. Neighbouring Cologne Bonn also reported strong demand and smooth handling. The autumn rush serves as the final major travel surge before the airport transitions to its winter flight timetable on 25 October 2026.
Heavy congestion was reported on regional motorways including over 370 kilometres of traffic jams across North Rhine-Westphalia at the start of the weekend. Passengers travelling to Düsseldorf Airport are advised to plan ahead due to heavily booked parking garages and concurrent regional train disruptions.
