Longford County Council hosted an Official Welcome for members of the Farrell Clan from across the world on 20 July to mark the start of the 10th International Farrell Clan Rally. Almost 200 guests from Ireland, the UK, America and Australia were welcomed to Áras an Chontae. The rally runs until 24 July.
The first day started with a tour of The Camlin Quarter in Longford town, followed by a gathering at The Remembrance Garden and a Parade of Nations led by the Longford Pipe Band. A key highlight was the inauguration of the new Farrell Clan Chieftain, Charlotte O’Ferrall, who succeeds her father, Conal, who has led the clan since 1993.
Cathaoirleach Cllr Gerry Hagan stated it was a pleasure to welcome members of the Farrell Clan to Longford County Council. Deputy Chief Executive John Brannigan stated the first gathering took place over three decades ago in 1993. An Official Welcome is one of the highest honours awarded by Longford County Council.
