GOLF for visitors to Spain’s LANZAROTE

Lanzarote, a island in Spain’s Canary Islands, offers golfers a unique chance to play amidst striking volcanic landscapes and ocean views. With a warm climate averaging 22°C year-round, the island is perfect for golf in any season. Home to two distinct 18-hole courses, Lanzarote caters to players of all skill levels, blending challenging layouts with scenic beauty. Just a short flight from mainland Europe and a 15-minute drive from Arrecife airport to the main resort areas, the island is an accessible destination for a golf-focused getaway, complemented by its beaches and natural attractions.

  • Among the championship courses, Costa Teguise Golf Club, designed by John Harris in 1978, is a par-72, 18-hole layout stretching 6,476 metres. Set at the foot of an ancient volcano, its fairways are lined with over 3,500 palm trees and cacti, offering a technical challenge with doglegs and fast greens. The course’s ocean views and volcanic terrain make it a favourite for skilled players.
  • Lanzarote Golf Resort, designed by Ron Kirby, is another standout, featuring an 18-hole, par-72 course spanning 6,133 metres. Its wide fairways and large greens, set against the backdrop of the Atlantic and Fuerteventura, provide a modern design that suits both high and low handicappers.

Both courses are popular with visitors, with Costa Teguise Golf Club drawing players for its challenging yet playable layout and proximity to the resort town of Costa Teguise, just five minutes away. Lanzarote Golf Resort, located between Puerto del Carmen and Tías, is equally favoured for its scenic views and forgiving fairways, ideal for a relaxed round. The volcanic ash and stones replacing traditional rough add a unique element, requiring strategic play.

Lanzarote’s golf facilities enhance the experience. Costa Teguise offers a driving range, practice green, pro shop, and equipment rentals, with a restaurant and bar serving local cuisine. Lanzarote Golf Resort provides a modern clubhouse with a terrace overlooking the ocean, alongside practice areas and a golf academy for skill improvement. Nearby hotels, such as the 4-star Hotel Grand Teguise Playa and Aequora Lanzarote Suites, offer golf packages, blending luxury with easy course access. Beyond the fairways, visitors can explore Timanfaya National Park, relax on beaches like Playa de Papagayo, or enjoy Puerto del Carmen’s dining scene, creating a balanced holiday.
