Travel receipts in July 2026 increased by 7.2pc to €4.72bn according to Bank of Greece data. For the January to July period total receipts reached €13.51bn up 12pc. Average spending per trip rose by about 10pc. Accommodation arrivals in July totalled 6.6m a rise of 2.5pc year on year. The figures highlight robust international visitor spending during the peak summer month.
Greek airlines and coastal shipping companies have moved into crisis management mode as jet fuel and marine fuel prices have more than doubled within a year. Fuel now accounts for more than 30pc of airline operating costs and around 60pc for ferry operators. Aegean has indicated it will keep capacity unchanged for the next six to eight months with zero growth expected in the fourth quarter and possibly throughout 2027.
The 7.2pc increase highlights robust international visitor spending during the peak summer month. Tourism remains a vital pillar for Greece with billions in monthly inflows significantly bolstering national GDP and local businesses.
