Birr Castle Demesne has launched its Halloween adventure programme for young explorers, running from 24 to 31 October, with the Whimsical Witches calling on children to join a quest to find magic that has mysteriously vanished from the demesne. Children can board the Halloween Train, follow an enchanting trail through the grounds, solve clues hidden throughout the demesne and meet the Whimsical Witches, where a special Halloween treat awaits each participant. The demesne opens daily from 09:00 to 16:30 throughout the Halloween Mid-term Break, with early booking advised and full details available on the Birr Castle website.
Alongside the Halloween activities, families can explore the Science Centre and the recently reimagined Treehouse Adventure Playground, with the autumnal colours of the gardens and parkland providing a backdrop for the seasonal experience. The Great Telescope, once the biggest in the world, remains on display for visitors to marvel at, with children encouraged to dress up in Halloween costumes to add to the festive atmosphere and create photo opportunities in the autumn landscape. The grounds contain rare plants gathered by the Earls of Rosse during their global travels over the past 150 years, offering a feast for the senses as the leaves turn to golden hues.
The Red Tree Trail, stretching 5 kilometres and featuring 65 distinguished trees, provides a self-guided walking experience included in general admission, with maps available at reception. Birr Castle Demesne operates as a partner garden of the Royal Horticultural Society of Ireland, with an abundance of rare plants and trees across 120 acres of parklands and gardens. The Courtyard Café serves seasonal sweet and savoury treats daily, with the gift shop offering souvenirs for visitors to the attraction.
