Sisters Enya and Dearbhla Beirne have paused their professional careers to fully reopen their family’s historic 200-year-old pub and camping site, Beirne’s of Battlebridge, in County Leitrim. The popular business, which includes a traditional Irish pub and the adjoining Battlebridge Caravan and Camping Park, closed down in December 2025. Unable to see the property leave the family name, Enya, a nurse, and Dearbhla, a schoolteacher, stepped away from their day jobs to take over full-time management.
The property officially reopened its doors in late July 2026, welcoming guests back just in time for the busy August Bank Holiday weekend. The land has belonged to the Beirne family for roughly two centuries. The sisters’ parents previously revived the venue in 1995 and built Ireland’s first glamping site there in 2013. Breaking away from the usual seasonal summer model, the sisters intend to keep the pub and park open all year round.
The extensive waterside destination sits along the River Shannon and caters to various types of holidaymakers. Accommodation includes traditional campsite plots alongside specialised glamping facilities. A dedicated relaxation zone features an outdoor sauna and an ice bath that overlooks the water. Family amenities include a children’s playground, an on-site marina, and a traditional pub space decorated with historic family photographs and local artefacts. Local business owners and residents from the surrounding Leitrim Village area have actively rallied around the sisters to offer help and support for the grand reopening.
