Irish Pubs global event planned for Citywest, Sept 26-28

  • Irish Pubs Global event, ‘the Gathering 2016‘, on in Citywest Hotel 26-28 September 2016
  • This year’s theme: ‘Creating a Destination Pub’, “a pub that people will go out of their way to visit” (see criteria here).

Participants should be nursing their hangovers about now from the Irish Pubs Global event’s ‘Awards and Hooley Night’ on Tuesday, with ten categories of awards (see shortlist here), with pubs from Rome (Scholar’s Lounge), Denmark (Tir na nOg), Lithuania (Irish Pub Nese),  Abu Dhabi (McGettigan’s), Cologne (Jameson Distillery Pub), and Dubai (The Irish Village) participating. Bizimply has won Innovation of the Year award, and An Pucan of Galway has won best native Irish pub. Appropriately, Senator Billy Lawless, the first Irish emigrant in the Oireachtas and former head of the Irish Vitners Association, formally opened the Gathering as he opened his own pubs in Galway and in Chicago. See here for biographies of the speakers at the event. An exhibit showcased various brewers (including Guiness, the Killarney Brewing Company, Carlow Brewing Co., Rascals brewing, Hyde Whiskey, Craftworks and more) to the 600 Irish pub operators from at home and abroad who attended the event.

Billy Lawless said: “I’m delighted to be invited to speak at this gathering. The Irish pub continues to enjoy prominent status worldwide and it’s vital we maintain this position. It’s important that we share our experience and expertise and that is what this event will allow those attending to do.”
