Jet2 has reported stronger summer bookings for 2026 compared to the previous year, demonstrating resilience in travel demand despite ongoing geopolitical tensions. The travel firm confirmed that booked-to-date passengers for summer 2026 were up 8.8%, an increase from the 7.1% figure reported in July. This performance comes as the global aviation industry grapples with higher energy costs and weakened travel demand linked to the conflict in the Middle East, which has entered its seventh month. To protect margins against fuel price volatility, Jet2 has increased its hedge position, with 93% of its fuel requirement for the year ending March 2027 hedged at an average price of $753, compared to 90% hedged at $743 as of July.
The company’s operational metrics for the summer season show a robust performance, with the load factor to the end of August 1.5 percentage points ahead of the previous year. Peak travel periods were exceptionally busy; between Friday 28 and Monday 31 August, Jet2 operated over 2,000 flights to 63 destinations. Majorca, Tenerife, Antalya, Dalaman, and Lanzarote remained the most popular destinations, indicating sustained demand for short-haul sunshine holidays. Jet2’s winter 2026-2027 seat capacity has also increased by 8% year-over-year, with the growth concentrated at Gatwick Airport. This forward planning suggests the company anticipates continued demand into the next season, despite the challenging geopolitical landscape.
Jet2 shared, “We have been encouraged by performance for Summer 2026 to date, despite the Middle East conflict leading customers to book closer to departure, a trend that is continuing across the peak summer period.”
