New figures from the Central Statistics Office have shown the total number of electric charging locations in Ireland stood at 1,125 by the end of last year. The CSO has reported a total number of 3,416 Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment or charging points and 3,662 connectors. The number of fast chargers was 1,883, which represented 55pc of the total charging points. The CSO noted that 82pc of the charging locations were located in urban areas, where 76pc of the EVSEs, 75pc of the fast chargers and 76pc of the connectors were also located.
Today’s CSO figures have shown there was one charging point for every 30 EVs, and one fast charger for every 54 EVs. County Dublin and County Cork together accounted for 30pc of the national charging locations, with 34pc of the total charging points and 34pc of the total fast charging points. At the other end of the scale, County Leitrim had the lowest share of charging locations at 0.4pc, with five locations, 0.3pc of charging points with 11 locations, and 0.4pc of fast charger points with seven.
The CSO has reported that in the EU-27 in May of this year, 19pc of the public chargers were fast chargers. Latvia had the highestpcage of fast chargers at 59pc and the Netherlands and Malta the lowest at 4pc. Across the EU-27 there was one charging point for every seven EVs. The Netherlands reported the lowest number with three EVs per charger and Malta the highest at 91 EVs per charger. For fast chargers, the EU-27 average was one fast charger for 37 EVs, with Latvia having the lowest number with one fast charger per nine EVs, while Malta had the highest at one charger for every 2,595 EVs.
