- Loganair Kirkwall Sumburgh routes end
- Loganair will close its Dundee base on 23 October 2026
- The PSO route between Dundee and Heathrow has operated since 2014
- Loganair is currently the only airline serving Dundee Airport
- Services linking Dundee with Kirkwall and Sumburgh will also end
- The carrier stated the contract had become financially unsustainable
Loganair will close its Dundee base when it ends its public service obligation route between the Scottish coastal city and London Heathrow on 23 October 2026, after extending a previously announced September closure. This will leave Dundee without any air services as Loganair is currently the only airline serving the airport. The carrier said the government-backed contract, operated since 2014, had become financially unsustainable.
The withdrawal will also end services linking Dundee with the Orkney and Shetland Islands at Kirkwall and Sumburgh respectively. Loganair currently operates between Dundee and Heathrow twice daily on weekdays and once daily on Sundays with ATR42-500s. The PSO route was designed to maintain connectivity between Dundee and London.
The closure of the Dundee base marks a significant reduction in Scottish regional air connectivity. Loganair had previously announced a September closure but extended the service until late October. The withdrawal leaves Dundee Airport without commercial air services.
Loganair shared in a written statement “The government-backed contract, operated since 2014, had become financially unsustainable, and the withdrawal will also end services linking Dundee with the Orkney and Shetland Islands. Loganair currently operates between Dundee and Heathrow twice daily on weekdays and once daily on Sundays with ATR42-500s.”
