Lufthansa has offered concessions to address competition concerns regarding its plan to acquire a 41pc stake in ITA Airways, the loss-making Italian state-owned carrier.
The German airline submitted its proposal to the European Commission before the January 15 deadline for the preliminary assessment of the deal.
Lufthansa’s concessions are undisclosed, but there are indications that it may dispose of slots, particularly at Milan Linate, to alleviate concerns.
The Italian government supports the deal, and the former flag carrier, Alitalia, has returned a 2021 loan of €100m to the Italian state.
