Minister Dara Calleary Opens National Outdoor Recreation Conference in Cavan

Minister Dara Calleary has opened the 3rd National Outdoor Recreation Conference and delegates have gathered at the Slieve Russell Hotel. Over 250 participants from the outdoor recreation sector attended the event on 25 June 2026 in County Cavan. The conference focused on building sustainable outdoor recreation across Ireland.

The event took place under the theme ‘Embracing Ireland’s Outdoors – Building Sustainable Outdoor Recreation across all of Ireland’. Stakeholders shared best practice and examined cross-border projects. Organisations working to make the outdoors accessible to all contributed to the programme.

Minister Calleary addressed the importance of sustainable and accessible environments in urban and rural locations. The conference provided an opportunity to review progress on the national strategy and to shape future ambitions for the sector.

Dara Calleary shared “I am delighted to open the National Outdoor Recreation Conference today in Cavan. It is vital that we continue to ensure that these assets are sustainable and accessible to as many people as possible so that everyone can reap the physical and well-being benefits of spending time in the outdoors.”
