Mount Congreve Gardens in Waterford has launched ROOTS, a new series of guest speaker events bringing together some of Ireland’s best-known voices in nature, heritage, horticulture, folklore and history. The programme runs year-round on a monthly basis, focusing on each season and inviting visitors to explore the stories, people and ideas beneath the surface of one of Ireland’s most celebrated gardens.
The programme begins on 27 September with environmental expert, broadcaster and author Éanna Ní Lamhna, who presents The Secret Life of an Irish Garden, exploring the garden as a habitat for biodiversity. The programme continues in November with wallpaper maker, conservator and researcher David Skinner exploring the history of Chinese wallpaper, including the rare example preserved at Mount Congreve. The 2026 series concludes on 13 December with local historian and author Julian Walton delving into the story of the Christmas family of Waterford and their connections with the city, Mount Congreve and the wider region.
ROOTS offers diverse conversations spanning Ireland’s great houses, nature, folklore, collections and local heritage. Each conversation has limited places, with tickets priced at €15 and booking required at www.mountcongreve.com.
