The National Library of Ireland is celebrating the centenary of WB Yeats’ most mystical work, A Vision, with a series of events running from 22 to 23 September. The event series will introduce the audience to themes including Yeats’ relationship to the occult symbols at the heart of the book, the significance of the moon in Yeats’ esoteric writings and the importance of drafts and manuscripts to interpreting A Vision. A Vision brings together the intersecting philosophical, mystical, astrological and historical ideas that shaped Yeats’ thinking and his works.
On 22 September at 6pm, Dr Neil Mann will deliver a talk titled A Vision: System, Symbols and Spirit, seeking to explain the ideas crucial to understanding A Vision and illuminating Yeats’ esoteric life, his writings, relationships and the occult system at the heart of the book. On 23 September at 1pm, Dr Neil Mann delivers a workshop on the 28 Phases of the Moon exploring Yeats’ Vision. On 23 September at 4pm, Dr Neil Mann discusses a selection of materials from the NLI’s collections which illustrate the significance of manuscript material in understanding Yeats’ works.
The events celebrate the digitisation of A Vision and aim to untangle its deeper meanings.
