A new waste disposal and freshwater facility for campervans has officially been installed at Killala Pier in County Mayo. The new setup aims to provide a sustainable solution for the growing number of motorhomes touring North Mayo. The facility includes a dedicated station allowing users to safely empty their chemical toilets into the mains sewer system and a clean water connection positioned for campervans to refill their water tanks after emptying their waste.
The project was delivered by Mayo County Council under the Killala Town Centre First Plan following campaigns by local Councillor Jarlath Munnelly and the Killala Community Council. Local councillor Jarlath Munnelly stated that the facility addresses environmental concerns from the growing number of campervans in the area and supports sustainable tourism.
Local authorities expect the enhanced infrastructure to protect the local environment while driving footfall to businesses in the area.
