European airline executives are expressing reluctance regarding proposals for a global pilot blacklist during the Airlines for Europe briefing in Brussels. Reference checks and previous employment checks are conducted before hiring pilots according to panel members. No system is perfect according to the executives.
The panel shared that a blanket blacklist of pilots would be concerning depending on circumstances. A system blacklisting pilots, cabin crew or airline executives forever would go too far according to the response. Extensive checks were conducted before hiring.
Michael O’Leary hared. I think I’d be very nervous about having some kind of blanket blacklist of heights. It would very much depend on why, but I think there should be. meeting with before we hire a pilot. We do reference checks, previous employment checks,, reference checks, you know, we go through extensive checks. No system is perfect. But I would be, you know, personally, uh, very reluctant to have a system that says, you know, a pilot, a cabinet crew or god forbid, an airline CEO would come on this. Therefore, you know, I think that would be I think that would be going too hard.
