The inaugural Schull Land and Sea Heritage Weekend is launching on Saturday 26 September and Sunday 27 September 2026. Set in the coastal village of Schull along West Cork’s Wild Atlantic Way, the community festival celebrates the region’s maritime, agricultural and natural history. The weekend features an itinerary split between guided land explorations and seaside adventures.
On the water activities include coastal sailing and rowing with international-standard sailors racing in Schull Harbour, traditional Coastal Yawl rowing on Sunday afternoon, open-water swimming with a seaside sauna, a foreshore ecological walk focused on marine ecology, and a ferry to Long Island accompanied by an expert birdwatching guide. On the land, guided treks along the Fastnet Trails will share history and folklore about surrounding townlands.
The Speaker’s Corners will feature local historians and residents sharing multi-generational stories regarding Schull’s farming, fishing, forging, its old train station and life on the Fastnet Lighthouse. An evening Ceili and music session will take place on Saturday night with sea shanties and open-mic music sessions across local pubs. The Sunday Country Market will offer local West Cork crafts, produce and food stalls paired with a family-friendly local landmarks clue trail. The festival takes place at various spots across Schull village, the harbour and its outer trails.
