Spain has recorded 12.4m international air arrivals in July 2026, marking a 5.8pc increase compared to the same month last year. The historic surge highlights Spain’s booming summer season, driving record-breaking activity across the country’s aviation and tourism sectors. Low-cost carriers accounted for 61pc of arrivals and grew by 8.9pc, carrying 7.56m passengers, while traditional airlines brought 4.83m, up 1.4pc.
Total airport network volume exceeded 34.4m passengers (both domestic and international) through Spain’s Aena airport network in July, a 5pc bump from last year, establishing July 2026 as the busiest single month in the network’s history. Spain’s air navigation manager Enaire handled a historic high of 257,909 flights during the month, a 5.5pc increase from July 2025. Despite managing unprecedented traffic load and breaking daily traffic records 30 separate times, Enaire cut air traffic delays by 20.8pc.
Madrid-Barajas remained the busiest airport, handling 6.46m passengers (up 4.8pc), followed by Barcelona-El Prat with 5.87m travellers (6pc growth). Palma de Mallorca processed 4.69m passengers, Málaga-Costa del Sol welcomed 3.04m (6.3pc growth), while Alicante-Elche and Valencia both recorded 11.1pc passenger jumps. Between January and July, Spain welcomed 67m international passengers, an increase of 5.2pc. The United Kingdom remained the top source market with 2.88m passengers, followed by Germany and Italy, with Poland recording 31.9pc growth among major markets.
A Turespaña shared in a written statement “Spain received 12.4m passengers from international airports in July, a rise of 5.8pc on the same month in 2025, with low-cost carriers accounting for 61pc of arrivals. Between January and July the country welcomed 67m international passengers, an increase of 5.2pc or 3.3m extra arrivals.”
