Louisa Murphy, the reigning queen of the Tramore Style Evening, has been announced as the judge for this year’s Most Stylish competition at the Tramore August Racing Festival. The festival, which runs from Thursday, 13th August to Sunday, 16th August, is expected to attract more than 26,000 visitors and generate an estimated €3.5m for the local economy. The event features 28 races with total prize money of €340,000 and is one of the largest racing festivals in the Southeast.
The Style Evening competition remains a major highlight of the festival, with crowds of over 8,000 people attending each year. The overall winner will receive a prize package from sponsor Waterford Castle Resort, including €500 in cash, bed and breakfast for two, and one dinner at the resort. Two runner-up prizes will also be presented: Afternoon Tea for Two and a Fourball Voucher for the golf club. The appointment of Murphy, a local hairstylist who won the competition just twelve months ago, marks a full-circle moment for the judge.
The racecourse manager has noted that the festival’s popularity has grown, with attendances and gate receipts increasing by almost 30pc since the pandemic. The event continues to be a significant driver of tourism and business confidence across County Waterford. The four-day meeting features a mix of local, national and international sponsors, with many of Ireland’s leading trainers and jockeys expected to compete.
Louisa Murphy shared, “Winning Style Evening at Tramore last year was genuinely a dream come true. I’ve been coming to Tramore Races for around ten years, and I live only a couple of miles from the course, so to come back as a judge is incredibly special.”
