Tuam survivor stories exhibition opens in Galway City museum

Galway City Museum has opened the Survivor Stories exhibition on Tuam. The installation focuses on the Tuam Mother and Baby institution and runs from July to September 2026. It features stories of 18 survivors through audio visual exhibits photographs documents and objects.

Catherine Corless contributed a scale model of the institution and other items. The University of Galway Tuam Oral History Project led by Dr Sarah-Anne Buckley supplied testimonies. A podcast series accompanies the exhibition.

The display marks the first dedicated museum focus on Mother and Baby institutions in Ireland and includes public talks and workshops.

Catherine Corless shared “What a wonderful and vital project this is.”

Professor David Burn shared “It is fitting that Catherine Corless and survivors of the Tuam Mother and Baby institution will now have a place beside heroes of Galway.”
