Türkiye’s AJet, a new wholly owned low-cost carrier rebranded from the former AnadoluJet, received its Air Operator’s Certificate on January 2, 2024, and plans to launch operations as a standalone carrier before the Summer 2024 season. The certification process took just over four months.
Prior to obtaining its certificate, AJet operated under the AnadoluJet brand as a division of Turkish Airlines, focusing on short- to medium-haul routes targeting VFR (visiting friends and relatives) and leisure demand.
AJet’s fleet, which still operates exclusively under Turkish Airlines’ ‘TK’ code, includes various aircraft models and some additional aircraft from SmartLynx Airlines and SmartLynx Airlines Malta. Turkish Airlines aims to expand AJet’s fleet to 200 aircraft, and also plans to transition to new-generation narrowbodies as soon as possible.
Turkish Airlines announced plans to launch long-awaited direct flights to Melbourne, Australia, though no specific dates have been provided.
