Visit Belfast hosted surprise live performances on an Enterprise train from Dublin to Belfast on 21 July as part of the build-up to Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann. Passengers on the 10.50am service from Connolly Station were treated to a ‘moving session’ featuring acclaimed Irish flute and whistle player Brian Finnegan and world-leading bodhrán player Aimee Farrell Courteney. The energy spilled into Belfast Grand Central Station with music from Stonewall and the McVerry family from South Armagh.
All-Ireland champion Arlene McCarroll performed a sean-nós dance creating an unforgettable welcome for passengers. Belfast is preparing to welcome 800,000 visitors for the world’s largest celebration of Irish music, language and dance from 2-9 August. Belfast is the only UNESCO City of Music on the island of Ireland, with more than 80 music venues, world-class performance spaces and a year-round programme of festivals.
The Gig Rig at City Hall will host free large-scale outdoor performances throughout the week. Translink Enterprise services run on the hour, making it convenient to get to Belfast from Dublin.
