Waterford Treasures Museums has launched a special programme of events for National Heritage Week 2026 from 17 to 23 August. The celebrations begin on 17 August with a free lunchtime tour of the Bishop’s Palace led by curator Rosemary Ryan. On 18 August at 6pm, visitors can join “Out of Storage – Maritime Objects from our Collection” with curator Donnchadh Ó Ceallacháin, featuring artefacts not normally on public display.
Families are catered for on 23 August with “Life in Viking Waterford,” an interactive family workshop at 11.30am with admission at €5 per person. Children can step into the world of the Vikings through costumes, arts and crafts and hands-on activities with replica objects. Later that afternoon at 2.30pm, a free guided walk titled “A Waterford Wall Walk” will explore the medieval defences of the city.
A Georgian-themed event with costume historian Melissa Shiels will take place in the Bishop’s Palace with admission at €5 per person. Cliona Purcell, Head Curator at Waterford Treasures, stated there is something for everyone in this year’s programme. Most events are free of charge, with the family workshop and Georgian event priced at €5 per person.
