Air Niugini has cancelled its order for two B787-8 aircraft according to Boeing’s January 2026 orders and deliveries data. The cancellation leaves the carrier without a confirmed replacement for its B767-300ER fleet scheduled to exit service this year upon lease expiry. The B787s had been intended to replace the B767s and support new routes to Asia, Australia, and New Zealand.
The decision aligns with earlier reviews prompted by changing circumstances noted by the airline’s board in 2025. Air Niugini continues to operate a mixed fleet including A220-300s, B737-800s, Dash 8 turboprops, F100s, and F70s with remaining commitments for eight A220-100s from Airbus Canada. Alan Milne has returned as CEO replacing the interim leadership.
Karl Yalo shared in the short term Mr Milne and his team will be focused on maintaining and enhancing operations and profitability.
