DERtours says Ballearic reservations creating problems for clients

At ITB Berlin 2026, German tour operator DERTOUR reported booking difficulties for the Balearic Islands this summer, expressing dissatisfaction with current reservation rhythms. 

Shifting preferences in travel behaviour for the upcoming summer season, include an emphasis among European travelers on securing destinations that offer safety, relaxation, and simplicity. 

The Group overall reported positive booking intentions for the 2026 summer season, a 4% increase in European visitor numbers compared to the previous year and a trend toward earlier, pre-holiday bookings, but say the market for the Balearic Islands has faced unique challenges. 

Travellers are increasingly prioritizing destinations that provide a sense of security and mental relaxation.

Geopolitical instability and extreme weather conditions have caused 36.3% of travelers to rank destination safety as a top factor in their planning.

A significant portion of travelers (74.2%) are more concerned about rising costs than in previous years, placing pressure on traditional, higher-priced holiday destinations.

Despite specific market adjustments, the DERTOUR Group, as a whole, is experiencing strong growth in many destinations, including a focus on expanding its portfolio in the Mediterranean

TUI Group CEO Sebastian Ebel said that the Middle East war as a short-term opportunity for destinations like Spain, Greece, Italy, and Cape Verde to attract diverted tourists.
