  • Meyer Werft has presented the 100pc battery-powered Vision cruise ship concept.
  • The vessel has measured 275 metres and accommodated 1,856 passengers.
  • The battery system from Corvus Energy has covered routes such as Barcelona to Civitavecchia.
  • The design has eliminated the funnel and main engines for improved views and comfort.
  • Delivery has remained possible in 2031 with infrastructure expected in 100 European ports by 2030.

Meyer Werft has presented a concept study for the world’s first 100pc battery-powered cruise ship named Vision. The vessel has measured 275 metres in length with capacity for 1,856 passengers and approximately 88,000 gross tons. Corvus Energy has supplied the battery system.

The design has enabled coverage of typical European cruise routes such as from Barcelona to Civitavecchia near Rome. Project Vision has introduced new architectural approaches that have eliminated the vertical shaft for exhaust treatment and the funnel which has allowed unobstructed views. The removal of main engines has reduced engine noise and vibrations.

Meyer Werft has stated that the technology has remained readily available with potential delivery in 2031 if ordered this year. Around 100 ports across Europe have expected charging infrastructure by 2030. The concept has also allowed hybrid versions with small generators for transatlantic crossings.

Tim Krug shared “We asked ourselves how we can use innovation to reduce CO2 and contribute to decarbonisation,  not in 50 years, but much sooner.”
