SETU launches earn while you learn hospitality degree

South East Technological University has introduced a new part time Bachelor of Business in Hospitality and Tourism Management. The work integrated learning programme allows students to combine paid employment with studies, attending classes one day per week while applying knowledge in the workplace. Developed with industry partners including Fáilte Ireland and the Irish Hotels Federation, it aligns with the national tourism strategy for 2025 to 2030. Applications are open for the September 2026 start, with funding options available to build skills in leadership, sustainability and management for Irelands tourism sector.

South East Technological University (SETU) has launched an innovative “earn while you learn” hospitality degree to shape the future of Irish tourism. The new Bachelor of Business (BBus) in Hospitality and Tourism Management (Level 7) is a part-time, 3.5-year programme that allows students to combine paid employment with higher education.

Students remain in paid employment throughout the degree.

Hybrid & Flexible Schedule: Classes are held just one day per week, minimizing workplace disruption.

No CAO is required. Students register directly with SETU from year one, skipping the traditional CAO application system. Its core curriculum covers leadership, customer experience, digital marketing, sustainability, and revenue management. 

The programme is designed primarily for employees in junior positions looking to step into supervisor or manager roles. County Wexford Chamber Skillnet offers eligible participants up to 40% funding toward programme fees.

The programme qualifies for SUSI part-time student funding. The Irish Hospitality Institute provides complimentary student membership during studies. Over 4 in 5 hospitality businesses surveyed by the South East Regional Skills Forum expressed intent to participate.

Applications are currently open on a first-come, first-served basis for the intake commencing September 2026.
