JetBlue Airways has requested up to 30 gates at Fort Lauderdale International Airport. The airline aims to fill capacity gaps following the collapse of Spirit Airlines earlier in 2026. JetBlue holds around 40pc of weekly capacity at the airport.

Chief executive Joanna Geraghty confirmed Fort Lauderdale as one of six key US focus cities. The airline prefers the location due to lower rates compared with other Florida airports. JetBlue explores other Spirit assets at auction but shows no interest in the former headquarters building.

The move supports continued growth in South Florida operations. JetBlue is working with the Broward County Aviation Department on expansion plans.

Joanna Geraghty shared “We are definitely going to need more resources in the form of gates. At this point, we are not interested in the former headquarters building.”
