Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport reached a historic record in July 2026 by handling 6,466,823 passengers. According to official data released by airport operator Aena, this represents a 4.8pc increase compared to the same month last year, making it the busiest airport in Spain’s record-breaking travel month.
The vast majority of travelers used commercial flights with numbers of international travellers up to 4,830,912 passengers, growing by 4.4, and domestic travelers at 1,626,769 passengers, marking a 6pc increase.
Airport flight traffic saw a large boost during the peak summer month, with 40,573 flights handled, a 7pc jump from July last year.
Between January and July 2026, Madrid-Barajas handled 40,527,579 total passengers. This marks a steady 4.3pc growth rate compared to the first seven months of the prior year.
The numbers were 8.8pc ahead of pre-pandemic. Rolling annual was 69,860,365, marking a 4 pc increase on the twelve months to July 2025.
